The Art of Reducing Plastic

LowPlast - THE ART OF REDUCING PLASTIC

The LowPlast – “The Art of Reducing Plastic” teve  project aimed to raise awareness on the reduction and prevention of plastics in the ocean. It focused on actions directed at sectors such as fast food, hospitality, river and beach bars, hotels, and markets, with the goal of reducing land-based plastic waste and plastic resulting from fishing activities. The project also promoted the value recovery of plastic after its use, giving practical meaning to the expansion of the Circular Economy.

Running from March 2020 to September 2021, the initiative involved monitoring actions, the dissemination of best practices, and the creation of artistic elements presented to the public in the municipalities of Vila Nova de Cerveira and Setúbal. It also produced two brochures on best practices for plastic reduction — one for the general public and another for commercial establishments.

The LowPlast project was promoted by Aquamuseum of the Minho River – Vila Nova de Cerveira Municipality, in partnership with Portuguese Marine Litter Association (APLM),
Cerveira Biennale Art Foundation (FBAC), and the Interdisciplinary Arts Institute – DTK (Norway), and was funded by EEA Grants..
